The Entrance to Waitaitama
Waitaitama City Retreat was built in kauri near the confluence of the Okeover Stream and the Avon River about 1898 and was the original homestead farm of the area. One of the first homes in Clyde Road, it was built for John Caygill Clarkson (1877-1935) and his wife Elsie Dora (nee Ballantyne).
This historic homestay offers a glimpse into the past of a time of elegance, quality and attention to detail. Waitaitama is a place of peaceful tranquility and elegance reminiscent of a bygone era. For garden lovers our home is a must for a visit.
Although only minutes away from both City and airport we are so quiet and peaceful. Remember large fires in winter, beautiful spring and summer gardens, the start of the Avon River at the bottom of our garden, gracious living and bounteous breakfasts.
That's why we are called the Waitaitama City Retreat.
